Coherent (resonance) breathing at about 5.5 breaths a minute

Coherent breathing - also called resonance breathing - means slowing your breath to about five to six breaths a minute, often around 5.5 seconds in and 5.5 seconds out. This slow, even pace is the one most studied for increasing heart-rate variability.

Evidence: Moderate support

Breathing near the "resonance frequency" of about six breaths a minute is associated with the largest increases in heart-rate variability, and controlled studies report improvements in HRV and mood. Individual resonance frequencies vary.[1][2]
