Гипервентиляция и избыточное дыхание

Overbreathing (hyperventilation) means breathing faster or deeper than the body needs, which lowers carbon dioxide in the blood and can cause tingling, light-headedness, and a sense of breathlessness. The remedy is to slow and reduce the breath - not to breathe more. Some intense "breathwork" styles deliberately overbreathe and are not what BreathMate teaches.

Calming breathing is gentle and slow. If a practice makes you breathe hard and fast, it is a different thing with different risks.

What overbreathing is

Breathing more than the body needs flushes out carbon dioxide faster than it is produced. Low carbon dioxide is what causes the classic symptoms - tingling in the fingers or lips, light-headedness, and a paradoxical feeling of not getting enough air. [1]

When to stop

The fix is counterintuitive: breathe less, not more. Slow, small breaths through the nose let carbon dioxide return to normal.

Higher-risk situations

  • Intense, fast "power breathing" styles that deliberately overbreathe.
  • Panic-prone individuals, for whom the symptoms can feel alarming.
  • Anyone with a heart or respiratory condition - check with a clinician first.

When professional advice is appropriate

Frequent overbreathing, or breathlessness that does not settle with slow breathing, is worth discussing with a healthcare professional.

Safer alternatives

Gentle, slow breathing with a relaxed longer exhale is the opposite of overbreathing and a safe default. BreathMate keeps every technique within calm, comfortable limits.
