נשימה לפני מבחן או בחינה

Before an exam, a minute of even or long-exhale breathing settles the nerves that crowd out working memory, so you can read the questions clearly. At the desk, a few quiet slow breaths before you start - and again if your mind blanks - help you re-focus.

Calm and sharp. Equal breathing keeps you alert; a longer exhale takes down a spike of panic mid-paper.

What to try

  • Equal breathing (4 in, 4 out) to stay alert and even.
  • A longer exhale (4 in, 6 out) if panic rises mid-paper.

Fast option

Three slow breaths before you turn the paper over, and again any time your mind goes blank.

Longer option

A short breathing session on the way in, so you arrive settled rather than wired.

What to avoid

  • Cramming breath-holds or big breaths at the desk - they add light-headedness.
  • Spending exam time on long practice; a few slow breaths is enough.

Evidence and limitations

Evidence: Early or limited evidence

Slow breathing lowers self-reported test anxiety in small studies; direct effects on exam scores are modest and mixed. Use it to steady yourself, not as a study shortcut.[1]

Safety

In the app

A short focus session beforehand, or a silent Watch session in the corridor before you go in.
