4-7-8 breathing: the wind-down breath, explained
4-7-8 breathing is a patterned breath - inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and exhale for 8. The long, slow exhale makes it a popular wind-down before sleep. The seven-count hold can feel long; if it does, shorten every count while keeping the exhale the longest phase.
